  • All coaches have annual background checks and are licensed through the Georgia Cycling Association.

  • Please attend a preseason activity to learn more or send an inquiry to [email protected]

Practices:

We practice together as a team alternating weekly between the Blankets Creek and Rope Mill mountain biking trails in Cherokee County. In addition, there will be “destination practices” at other trails on select weekend dates. Student-athletes practice together in ride groups based on skill level and fitness. Practices include rides, skills, and fitness activities. All practice activities are coach supervised.

  • Regular Season begins July 1
  • Practices are typically Monday & Thursday nights, 6:00 to 8:00pm. Times will adjust as days get shorter
  • A complete practice and event schedule will be available prior to start of the season
  • Attendance to 2/3 of practices is required. Athletes missing excessive practices fall behind and cannot be safely accommodated into our practices

Equipment:

Each rider is responsible for having and maintaining his/her own mountain bike and associated equipment.  We strongly recommend every rider establish a relationship with a local bike shop for bike maintenance, accessories/equipment, and questions.

Required equipment for practice:

  • Consider a MIPS helmet if possible. Full face helmets are not allowed.
  • Closed toe shoes. Cycling specific shoes recommended for all but beginner riders.
  • Bike: MOUNTAIN BIKES ONLY! No road bikes, cyclocross bikes, or mountain bikes equipped with drop bars.
  • 26-to 29-inch wheels with tires not narrower than 1.75 inches.
  • Tires must have knobbies. Slick tires are not permitted.
  • If a student-athlete is unable to ride a mountain bike with 26-to 29-inch wheels due to his or her height, competing on a mountain bike with smaller wheels is permitted.
  • Water: carried on-bike or in a hydration pack.
  • Recommended: spare tube, mini-pump (or CO2 inflator), cycling shorts (lycra or baggy), gloves, eye protection.

Racing:

Racing is optional but encouraged! You will find the race environment to be exciting and highly supportive!

Cross-country is a specific form of cycling, different from road riding, downhill racing, BMX, cyclo-cross, or track racing. Cross-country requires a broad range of skills to ride up and down mountain bike trails. We do not participate in “gravity” or downhill/enduro style events.

Georgia Cycling has a 4-race series in the fall for middle and high school student-athletes. Athletes in 6&7 grade may qualify for a conference championship race based on their accumulated points from the four previous races. Athletes in 8-12 grade may qualify for a state championship race based on their accumulated points earned from prior race events.  All teams in Georgia participate in the same races.  Student-athletes compete in grade/gender categories up through 9th grade. Above 9th grade there are performance/gender categories.  The top 5 finishers in each category “podium” and receive a medal.  All riders receive points and high school team awards are based on a points system.

Registration:

Registration is a two-step process and all student-athletes must register prior to participating in team activities.

Each student pays:
